Welcome
My name is Kathryn Keller and I have been a psychotherapist and personal life coach since 1981. My joy in life is helping people move toward a future not just get over a past. I am a Board Certified Diplomate in my profession and Licensed as an Independent Practitioner.
I am committed to providing my clients with couseling in depth practical approaches for enhancing their lives and changing unhelpful patterns. Clients work with me not only to understand themselves but also to devise practical solutions to their problems. I work with clients on both personal and professional issues. I help clients discern what is really important to them and foster and nurture their efforts toward what really matters.
My areas of interest and expertise are self-esteem, shyness, grief/loss, loneliness, stress management, effective communication, and healthy relationship building. When appropriate, my clients and I deal together with any underlying depression and anxiety that may contribute to their difficulties. My clients and I work together not only to manage and transform life's challenges but also to create and move toward their visions for their lives. Self psychology, cognitive therapy, and personal life coaching are the primary disciplines I enlist to assist clients in meeting their goals.
Do come in and explore my website for a more extensive explanation of my practice in counseling, psychotherapy, personal life coaching and executive coaching and for a schedule of my seminars. I am happy you stopped by.

How the right Psychotherapist/Counselor can help you
Let me begin by saying that anyone can say he or she does psychotherapy. This is why it is so important to find someone with solid professional education and experience. Equally important is finding someone who will help you discern what is deeply important to you and support your efforts in moving toward what really matters in your life.
Psychotherapy is about having a relationship with someone who is totally in your corner. The therapist brings knowledge and experience to help you deal with thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and to address real life situations.
Psychotherapy is a very real process where you are helped to discover and deal with whatever is keeping you stuck and where you receive assistance in making the really difficult decisions about your life. Any underlying sadness or fear that may be contributing to your difficulties is addressed with your therapist. Self Psychology and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are the modalities used to assist you in moving toward practical results.
Sometimes you feel drawn toward a goal but also see the difficulties in achieving it. The purpose of psychotherapy is not only to assist you in moving toward the life you desire but also to enhance your self-esteem as you do this. In other words, who you are is considered as well as what you are going to do.
Your psychotherapist should be helpful to you in a very real and concrete way. You should notice an improvement in the way you think, feel, meet life's challenges, and communicate with others. Who you are - what you think, feel, and believe - then becomes connected to how you live your life. Psychotherapy is a truly wonderful and unique experience.
This is the way my clients and I view the psychotherapy process. I help the client discern what is deeply important to them. I help clients understand their strengths, meet their challenges and move toward a future rather than just get over a past.
You may contact me for a telephone screening conversation to see if psychotherapy is appropriate for you. There is no charge for the screening. My office is in Downtown Chicago.
How
the right Personal Life Coach can help you
What do you really want in your life? How can you get it? Life coaching comes from an educational model. It is a relationship with a professional trained to help you take specific and concrete action toward reaching your goals.
Through interplay with me as a life coach, you as a client would receive support, feedback, and structure to learn what is important to you. We would develop a practical strategy for creating possibilities in your life. You would work with me to discover and develop practical solutions to your problems. As part of this process, we would discuss any confusion you may be experiencing in order to help you clarify your values and your goals.
Together we would develop and implement an action plan to enable you to create concrete changes in your life and to assist you in creating the life you choose. We would determine the activities that may help you achieve your goals and then schedule these activities. It is during this part of the process that you receive feedback from the life coach and work with any blocks you may have in doing these activities. Activities would be altered and changed in line with what is comfortable for you. Feedback is given all along the way and may be adjusted and modified at any time.
Clients are helped with the following life challenges: life transitions (both personal and professional), stress management, time management and goal setting, self-esteem, shyness, communication skills, and interpersonal relationships. When appropriate, telephone coaching is done nationwide.
A good coach will help you think in new ways, offer insight and feedback, offer support and encourage you to take on new challenges so you can move toward your vision for a more meaningful and fulfilled life.
You may contact me for a telephone screening conversation to see if personal life coaching, executive coaching, or telephone coaching is appropriate for you. There is no charge for the screening.Personal coaching is done in my office in Downtown Chicago. Telephone coaching is done nationwide.
